Commerce, CA. Want to change your oil while wearing a tuxedo? Even if the answer is “no,” Pareto Point Industries (PPI) RecOil/TurtleBac products allows you to do so. According to Dr. Robert Hammer, PPI’s CEO, “You can change your oil by pushing a button, without spilling a drop, and without lifting the car in five minutes! How cool is that?”
The RecOil Kit consists of a modified sump plug, pump, hoses, a quick disconnect, and a certified container. RecOil provides a super-fast, easier, safer, and cleaner way to evacuate used motor oil than crawling under the car, removing the drain plug, and allowing hot oil to splash into a tub, possibly splattering onto your face or arms. RecOil is simple: A drain plug, hose, and one side of the quick disconnect remain in the vehicle. To make an oil change, the pump is connected to the car, to the container, and then to the battery. By activating a switch, oil is evacuated into the container. One RecOil kit is good for multiple vehicles; however each vehicle requires its own drain plug, hose, and disconnect.
TurtleBac is a recyclable cap that seals the used oil filter. According to Dr. Hammer, “Handling used oil filters is messy, and the EPA recommends ‘hot draining’ them. This consists of punching holes into the filter and draining it for ten hours. Small wonder that used oil filters reclamation is about 5 percent.” Once fitted, the filter can be transported safely without leakage, eliminating a major DIY concern. TurtleBac has a large surface area for environmental messages, advertising, or laser coded source tracking.
Why is this important? The Federal EPA lists improper disposal of used motor oil by DIYs as the primary non-point pollution source impacting US waterways. Dr. Hammer says, “DIYs dump over 10 million gallons of used oil, an amount nearly equal to the Exxon Valdez spill, into the groundwater every ten days; and of the almost half billion disposable oil filters annually sold to DIYs, about 95% are improperly disposed. Recycling globally reduces the need for raw stock processing; and reclaiming just one filter averages 5KwH, that does not need to be produced, removing about 8 pounds of greenhouse gasses. Just imagine! Per ton, this represents a loss of about 1,700 pounds of recyclable steel and 60 gallons of reclaimable oil. Further, a ton of this highly toxic waste consumes about 10 cubic yards of valuable landfill space.”
Surveying over 500 RecOil users found a satisfaction rate of over 86 percent. Dr. Hammer states, “This was great. It means a higher percentage of our precious reusable resources are reclaimed, in addition to significant reductions in pollution.”
Dr. Hammer concludes, “In addition to enthusiasts advocating RecOil/TurtleBac, we envision a model similar to our successful public/private demonstration, which engages local government, foundations, and local auto supply houses. The bottom line is that the combination of DIY education, advertising, and the RecOil/TurtleBac tools result in sustained positive behavioral change, reclamation of precious resources, and a cleaner environment.” For more information, contact Dr. Hammer (see below for numbers)
